Wood County Sheriff's Department
Patrol Division
The Wood County Sheriff’s Department Patrol Division consists of 25 deputies.
The deputies work a 10 hour shift, the day shift is from 7 am to 5 pm, the evening shift is from 3 pm to 1 am, adn the night shift is from 10 pm to 8 am.
We also have a civil service deputy who is primarily responsible for serving civil papers in the county.
The Patrol Division has the responsibility of responding to calls for service in a county that covers approximately 700 square miles. Wood County has a population of approximately 42,000 and consists of several lakes including one of the nation’s best fishing lake, Lake Fork.
We have a K-9 unit thanks to the citizens of Wood County. There is a K-9 unit available on most shifts. The K-9’s are trained in narcotic detection, patrol apprehension, and tracking. The K-9’s consist of 1 Belgian Malinois, and 1 German Shepherd.
The Commissioner’s Court allows the Sheriff’s Department to have 12 reserve deputies. The reserve deputies are certified Peace Officers but offer their time freely to assist the Sheriff’s department in adding manpower to our patrol units and special events. These men and women have jobs in civilian fields and volunteer their time to help their fellow citizens of Wood County. The reserve deputies perform the same duties as regular deputies with the department, but at no cost to the citizens of Wood County. In 2006 the Reserve Deputies provided 1,870 hours of work to the Sheriff's Department. This would total $30,499.70 under a deputy's hourly pay rate. |
